Sub Editor

Position reporting to Input Editor. The key performance areas include:

1. SUB EDITING
•Sub-editing all open news content – scripts, graphics, lives, boards and crawlers across the various platforms.
•Ensuring content is succinct, factually accurate, contextual, relevant, engaging, conversational, and in line with the channel’s writing style.
•Checking scripts and correcting errors, inconsistencies and omissions.
•Assisting in updating open news style guide when necessary.

2. LIAISING
•Liaising with digital journalists, video journalists and producers, helping them refine story angles and content.
•Attending diary meetings, providing input, story ideas, and feedback.
•Reporting back with updates on story progress throughout the day.

3. BULLETIN CONTENT
•Assisting programme editors to check content in bulletin rundowns.
•Writing and voicing local and international stories.
•Sub-editing headlines and promos.
•Reviewing scripts and on-screen text in bulletins.
•Checking wire services and news feeds for breaking news.
•Assisting on how best to visually illustrate stories.

Requirements:

•A relevant Television or Journalism qualification
•A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a similar role
