Manager: Engineering

The incumbent is responsible for managing the team of engineers based in Johannesburg, ensuring the maintenance, repair, replacement and technical support for all broadcast and related equipment, both hardware and software in e.tv and eNCA. The incumbent would also be required to assist in planning and installation of new equipment.

Position reporting to Group Chief Engineer.
You key performance areas include:

1.TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Over seeing a team of Engineers, responsible for the following:
-Providing technical support during live broadcasts.
-Providing technical line-ups, testing and routing of all incoming live satellite and fibre feeds.
-Assisting SNG/ENG crews with repairs and maintenance of their equipment.
-Providing first line support to all operational personnel.
-Assisting in diagnosing and correcting faults that occur during broadcasts.
-Performing first line repairs and fault finding down to component level.
-Assisting in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
-Ensuring drawings and documentation are up to date if future installation changes occur.

2.PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
Over seeing a team of Engineers, responsible for the following:
-Performing preventative maintenance per published schedule.
-Completing routine system checks as per published schedule.
-Identifying possible breakdown points and develop preventative plans to minimize down time.
-Investigating and submitting fault finding report during breakdowns to prevent future down time.
-Investigating escalated incidents to responsible service owners and seek resolution.
-Facilitating recovery following resolution of incidents.

3.OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
-Managing Audio, Video equipment maintenance and repairs and ensure a quality service to relevant departments.
-Drawing up and implementing SOP’s for the department
-Ensuring engineering department meets all specified service level agreements with relevant departments within eMedia.
-Managing engineering projects as and when they are implemented.
-Managing stock control by means of a regular stock checks.
-Disseminating information among all engineering staff.
-Performing advance planning for projects.
-Monitoring of all activities related to Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
-Ensuring that incidents are handled according to agreed procedures.
-Ensure that resolved incidents are properly documented and closed.

4.TEAM MANAGEMENT
-Leading a team of engineers at various levels of skills and experience to deliver unit objectives in an environment of high performance and professional development.
-Prioritising and assigning projects based on direction from management and knowledge of the business needs.
-Coordinating activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of team members.
-Evaluating and verifying team members performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques against targets, standards and service levels.
-Acknowledging the skills of key team members and utilize their strengths to the benefit of the team.
-Defining expectations and objectives with the team members.
-Ensuring that all members understand the projects ahead.
-Ensuring that the team members have the necessary training to effectively participate within the team.
-Managing and report on the team’s performance and unit to ensure efficiency and achievement of goals.
-Mediating disagreements between members.
-Facilitating, managing and executing disciplinary matters related to misconduct, incapacity and poor work performance.
-Managing shift and resource requirements.

5.SPECIALISED SUPPORT
-Providing specialised technical / professional support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure achievement of functional and organisational objectives.

6.VENDOR MANAGEMENT
-Building and maintaining vendor relationships required for hardware/software support.
-Researching hardware, software and services.

7.BUDGET AND COST CONTROLS
-Providing input into annual budget planning process and submit to line management for approval.
-Implementing and effectively managing the approved budget.
-Support identification, implementation and development of processes to optimise cost efficiency
-Tracking budget guidelines for maintenance and projects
-Reconciling invoices based on quotes and track payment

8.INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
-Building, supporting and maintaining healthy, diverse internal and external relationships to ensure achievement of organisational goals.
-Ensuring clear, consistent and real-time communication to ensure quality and delivery of engineering services.
-Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers as required.

9.ANTICIPATE CHANGE AND FORECAST DEVIATIONS
-Anticipating change and align reporting and information requirements.
-Forecasting deviations and take short to medium term proactive action.

10.DATA INTEGRITY CONTROL
-Obtaining, checking and refining information.
-Collating and submitting reports.
-Running data exception reports and take corrective action.
-Conducting document control spot-checks.

11.MICRO- AND MACRO-ECONOMIC AWARENESS
-Remaining up to date with macro and micro-economic conditions, legislation, competition, market sentiment and the industry in general.
-Anticipating and planning for circumstances that may influence the development and implementation of the functional strategic plan.

12.RISK MANAGEMENT
-Managing the Company’s risk exposure through identifying, implementing and maintenance of risk control measures to minimise the Company’s liability.

13.MONITOR COMPLIANCE
-Monitoring and ensuring adherence to statutory regulations, organisational standards, policies and procedures.
-Ensuring remedial actions is implemented timeously to address non-conformances.
-Ensuring effective and regular communication of new statutory regulations, organisational standards, policies and procedures to ensure full awareness amongst employees and contractors.

Requirements

A relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering
A minimum of 5 years experience in a Broadcast environment.
A minimum of 3 years experience in a management role.
